Beauty Sleep Is Not A Myth
The most powerful anti-oxidant known to man is produced by your body. It is called melatonin!
When the sun goes down your body produces melatonin and it is important for a good night’s sleep. It penetrates into your mitochondria and it protects it from damage.
So what is the mitochondria? They produce, amongst others, the energy for your cells.
Being tired all the time is a sign that there is a problem with your mitochondria. They also play a huge role in ageing.
When we sleep, that is when we reach stage four (deep sleep), our bodies repair themselves. The damaged mitochondria gets sorted out, restorative functions are performed, debris is cleared out, brain is cleansed out from toxins and many other functions are performed that affects our wellbeing and immune system.
So your mitochondria health is important to your whole wellbeing!
According to Ari Whitton, in today’s modern world we loose around 50% of our melatonin (1). Phone screen time chase the melatonin away and activates dopamine so try blue blocking glasses. Bright lights after the sun sets does the same so try an orange colour light. Light filled bedrooms when we sleep keeps us from restorative beauty sleep. Sleeping with your tablet or phone next to your head or those last minute emails will prevent you to get into the deep sleep cycle where restoration happens.
This is why many of us are tired when we wakeup. Not enough sleep ages your skin!
So treasure your circadian rhythms (your 24 hour awake and sleep cycles) as they affect your mood, sleep quality, metabolism and more.
Sleep is a free and potent remedy for beautiful skin and overall wellbeing!

Skin Sensitivities, Eczema and Trauma
Today I offer you a half baked potato, on skin sensitivity. It simply means that this is most likely not the whole answer to skin sensitivities.
It is true that anyone can be allergic to anything at anytime, however sometimes a skin reaction can also be as a result of the Herxheimer effect. Herxheimer effect means that the symptoms like a current rash becomes worse because there is an underlying infection.
I have attended quite a few summits and seminars on auto immunity, the mitochondria, immune system and more in order to understand the skin and underlying factors that affects it.
Everyone talks about toxins. Toxins form the environments, heavy metals, parasites, lyme disease and more. What has caught my attention though is that it seems as if the problem that produces the most toxins in the body is the mind. Yep, it is the things that we are thinking about. It is our emotions and our reactions that are stored in our unconscious memories from unresolved trauma.
It seems that our unresolved trauma affect the way we think and operate and how we respond to life.
This is where the skin sensitivities come in. I have had a number of people approach me hoping they found the solution for their highly sensitised skin. I am talking about people who are allergic to everything. Some can even barely tolerate coconut oil.
I am not talking about people who are sensitive because of toxic or synthetic ingredients in skincare, perfumes and cleaning products. I am talking about highly sensitive people.
Sadly, a botanical topical product, will most likely cause a reaction too, even tough it is natural. The skin reflects what is going on inside the body!
Eczema can be the result of not receiving the micro-biome ‘shower’ you receive when you move through the birth canal, because of a cesarian birth.
However it can have a deeper emotional root that stems from attachment trauma according to Jason Prall (Human Longevity Project film series).
According to Dr Trevor Gates eczema is a sign that your body is struggling and if the root is left unresolved it often leads to auto immunity or asthma.
So our skin speaks loud and clear and what I have come to experience is that if it reacts to anything it comes into contact with if you have, most likely, suffered trauma and the wound is not healed or you finished the process prematurely.
There is good news! I kept you in mind when I formulated Vitality Skin Supplement. It is a dietary botanical based anti oxidant. Per definition an anti oxidant helps with oxidative stress caused by toxins. In this case toxic emotions. It is the only product I can offer that has the potential to assist your body, but it cannot be the only tool in your wellness protocol.
You will have to try and find the root. And for those brave enough to do so, I salute you. It is not an easy journey. It is not a quick fix, however it will be life changing.
So who said that beauty is only skin deep?
Please note: this article is not meant to diagnose or treat disease. It’s function is purely informational
Emotions Affects Your Skin…and much more!
Emotional stress is an under exposed factor that suppresses immune function!
Did you know there is a direct link between childhood trauma in the onset of adult diseases?
A study that started in the mid 90’s on 17 500 adults, by the CDC (Centre of Disease Control in the USA) and Kaiser Permenente called the Adverse Childhood Event study revealed results worth noting for your overall wellbeing.
Your skin is just one tool your body uses to bring certain conditions inside your body to your attention.
‘When most dermatologists look at your skin, their goal is to suppress skin problems, but I want to encourage you to take a different look at skin because it’s trying to give you clues about your overall health. Your skin is your magic mirror providing an outward sign of your inner health. When your hormones, digestion, blood sugar, immune system, or other body systems are out of balance, it can show up on your skin.
When you ignore its messages, you’re missing an opportunity. And, if you continue to avoid the true underlying causes, your health can be impacted in other ways. For example, I’ve seen patients with eczema later develop asthma and autoimmune diseases because they ignored their magic mirror.’ – Dr Trevor Cates
Hopefully this article and talk by Nadine Burke Harris will give you some clues for your journey!

There is more...
Unfortunately it doesn’t stop there. We inherit inter generational trauma as well. If your parents or grandparents or further those down the line have experienced trauma it affects you as well. Third generation holocaust victims has similar physiological and physiological expressions of their grand parents.
Lastly, a very unreported area is that of attachment trauma. It happens in the first 1000 days of life (includes womb time), before cognitive thinking in the brain comes alive. This happens when:
- mom is not securely bonding with baby or
- mom herself is traumatised
According to studies by Mary Ainswort (American-Canadian psychologist) 45% of babies insecurely attach to their mothers. This means that 45% plus adults cannot form secure relationships. This results in two types:
- Avoiding Relationships – mom leaves the room and comes back, baby doesn’t respond either way. Mom is basically a stranger to the baby, because she basically ignores the baby
- Anxious Types – mom leaves the room and comes back and the baby cries when she leaves and cries when she comes back and it is difficult to calm baby down. This happens when mom sometimes meets baby’s needs and other times don’t
Secure babies cries when mom leaves the room and cries a little when she comes back, but then calms down and continues to play.
Since attachment trauma does not qualify as PTSD it is not really picked up.
According to statistics from the Adult Attachment Trauma Interview, adults with attachment trauma do not bond with their children.
We are social beings and not getting love from our mother in the early days sets the body in a permanent stress response. The epigenetic expression is changed because of this as trauma this young changes the biology of the body. The body is reset to go into a flight or fight mode. In other words the baby’s immune system is reset in their bodies.
As adults we experience stress and trauma and some are resilient and others gets knocked down and this can be traced back to childhood.
As an adult the weak link in your chain comes to the front and it can be anything from a heart attack or immune disease etc.
The epigenetic expression in stress response changes. You don’t heal from the trauma as time goes by. Your body remembers it and it stays in that state as it keeps it stored. The trauma is then just concealed and when not dealt with gets exposed in disease like auto immune etc.
When a child is in a loving relationship neural pathways of calmness and security is formed. The brain of a child that experiences a rough childhood develops differently.
This is most certainly not the time to go into the blame game with your parents as they parent the way they were parented.
Now for the good news! The epigenetic expression can be changed.
You can do any or all of the following:
- Look at the ten questions and see if they fit (from the video)
- Draw up a timeline going backward and check for trauma
- Journal
- Talk to someone like a counsellor or trusted friend
- Find a spiritual mentor since we are affected in spirit, soul and body
- Schedule a daily rest routine where you totally relax for at least 20 minutes twice a day. Use this time to walk in nature, paint, dance, spending time with a friend. These are anti inflammatory activities where there is no competition and no right or wrong way. This daily time resets many stress messages.
- Breathe properly – deep breathing is important
- Focus and chew properly
- Massaging your body can also help to release trauma in the muscles
- Get sunlight
- Use essential oils – if you haven’t read my free ebook on The emotions, herbs and emotions connection, this may be the time. It is available, for free, when you sign up for the newsletter on this website.
Help your immune system to stay strong by scheduling a daily rest routine even if you didn’t have a traumatic childhood. There are enough stressors in today’s society for everyone to take a break.
A meta study that was done in 2004 which involved 300 000 people showed that social support is the strongest predictor of survival.
The state of our relationships are linked to what happend to our childhood. We don’t live in a vacuum so ask yourself:
- How this affects physical illness in your body and the effect thereof on your loved ones
- How are you being destructive towards others?
- How do you go about your life?
- Do you feel like the only time you will get love is by get love by doing things? Do you know that this can lead to adrenal fatigue or turning into a workaholic?
- Do you feel in order to give love you will receive? In other words placing everyone else above yourself
- Or do you feel you will only get love when you do things right?
A reductionistic attitude won’t work even though there is just about a pill for every ill. Know that awareness alone will start to shift things.
An obesity clinic in the USA experienced a 55% drop out rate on people doing well on the program. Being fat was a form of protection against unwanted attention. Having a thin body was a threat to their identity. Our decisions are driven by factors that we cannot see, therefor finding the root cause will change your life.
- You remember being fed or cared for and you don’t remember childhood trauma, but you know something is wrong
- If you have experienced intense early trauma
- You pray and nothing shifts
Find a counsellor that –
- knows how to help
- you feel safe with
This is important as suppressed memories can pop and then you need to be in a safe space and you don’t get re-traumatised.
There are plenty tools that can help for those we who are looking for it:
